Julie Arduini’s Favorite Kindle Read from 2013 is…

I think I received my Kindle three years ago, and I wasn’t sure. I’m a die hard book reader. Well, I love my Kindle. I still have the basic model, and it serves me well. I still read “real books” but for those times I’m stuck in a waiting room, I can get a lot of Kindle reading done.

This category is a little different compared to my 2013 Fiction and Non picks of the year that I did earlier this week. My Kindle pick doesn’t necessarily mean it was published in 2013, but it was usually free read I picked up at the time and loved it.

I chose a fiction and non fiction Kindle read.

First, fiction.

Fugitive by Shirlee McCoy. This was published in 2013 and I’m not positive how I came across it–free or not– but I’m glad I did. 51k8wZ2I3mL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA278_PIkin4,BottomRight,-68,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_

“Help me.”

When she opens her door to a wounded, handcuffed stranger, Laney Jefferson is terrified…until she recognizes her unexpected visitor. Thirteen years ago, Logan Randal was there for her when she desperately needed a friend. Now the wrongfully convicted lawman needs the widow’s help. On the run from the law and guided only by Laney’s unswerving faith in Logan’s innocence, their mutual attraction begins to break down the barriers around Laney’s heart. But the real culprit is much closer than they imagine…a cunning enemy determined to keep the past—and the truth—buried forever.

I remember this had constant conflict and sparks. I was rooting for Laney and Logan from the get-go. If you like romantic suspense, this is for you. To purchase, click on the link above.

Now, my favorite non fiction Kindle read of the year.

Beyond Ordinary by Justin and Trisha Davis. At the time it was a free read and I was blown away by the transparency the two share in their marriage. It could be anyone’s story, but they are the two that had the courage to share their journey in hopes of helping others. I thought their experience shed light on what pride and insecurity can do. I’ve seen and lived it time and time again. There was so much going against this couple, but by the grace of God, they have a story to tell that is all about hope, healing, and forgiveness. Don’t miss this. The link is above.

The biggest threat to any marriage isn’t infidelity or miscommunication. The greatest enemy is ordinary. Ordinary marriages lose hope. Ordinary marriages lack vision. Ordinary marriages give in to compromise. Ordinary is the belief that this is as good as it will ever get. And when we begin to settle for ordinary, it’s easy to move from “I do” to “I’m done.” Justin and Trisha Davis know just how dangerous ordinary can be. In this beautifully written book, Justin and Trisha take us inside the slow fade that occurred in their own marriage—each telling the story from their own perspective. Together, they reveal the mistakes they made, the work they avoided, the thoughts and feelings that led to an affair and near divorce, and finally, the heart-change that had to occur in both of them before they could experience the hope, healing, and restoration of a truly extraordinary marriage.
