Restoring Christmas first appeared in the 2018 boxed set, A Christmas to Remember. One of my author goals was to participate in a boxed set, and even better, a Christmas one. I’m still pinching myself that I was able to be a part of it.
The premise for Restoring Christmas came about after I visited Castle Noel in Medina, Ohio. This is a huge attraction featuring every Christmas movie prop you can imagine. It’s a guided tour that lasts over an hour. It starts with a walk outdoors to see the infamous RV from Christmas Vacation and ends with a slide down the very slide Ralphie uses when he tells Santa he wants a Red Ryder BB gun in A Christmas Story. As I drove home completely in the Christmas mood, I started thinking.
What if someone worked at a Christmas tourist attraction and they hated Christmas?
It started as a what-if game driving, but once I joined the boxed set team, I was able to plot away. I had so much fun creating Holly, Kevin, and the sweet characters who complete Restoring Christmas. Like all my romances, I set it in Upstate NY. I based Geneseo Valley, fictional, after Geneseo (Jen-Uh-See-Oh,) the beautful village in the Finger Lakes Region where I graduated from college.
About Restoring Christmas:
Holly Christmas left Geneseo Valley and her family’s holiday tourist attraction, The Christmas Mansion, as soon as she graduated. Now both her parents have passed, and Holly returns when her uncle needs her help running the mansion. On Holly’s first day back, a blunt middle-schooler proclaims Holly hates Christmas. His comment forces her to reconcile the past while planning for the mansion’s future.
Kevin Holt is invested in offering hope to students with challenges. His best friend’s son is in Kevin’s class, and Nathan needs guidance. Their community project placement at The Christmas Mansion is an opportunity to make a positive difference. When Nathan blurts out his thoughts to the beautiful co-owner, Kevin wonders if he has what it takes to help restore the mansion to its former glory, mentor Noah, and convince Holly Christmas she’s exactly where she needs to be.
