Surrender to Peace is the title of my latest contemporary romance set in lovely Puerto Rico, and it is also something I think Christ taught all Christians to do when he said to “take up your cross daily.” This quote is mentioned in three of the four gospels, so I think it is definitely something Christ wants us to emulate. Just as Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but Thine” in the Garden before he left to be tried and nailed to a cross, (Matt. 26:39) we all need to give up our own wills to the Father in all things.
At the beginning of the story, my character, Joy Worth, has just flown to Puerto Rico on her “un-honeymoon” after she was jilted a week before her wedding. As she has more time to think and pray in this tropical paradise, she comes to realize she stopped listening to God’s Spirit months before when she became engaged to a guy who wouldn’t even go to church with her. Was that the turning point in her relationship with God? She spends her time touring the lovely island and reading her Bible and praying to hear His Voice again.
