Sabbath Sunday: Not Shaken

IMG_20121015_181146

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8

***

As wars and rumors of war increase, as disease spreads and division multiplies,

you’re going to notice something.

The ones who call on the name of the Lord will not be shaken.

It doesn’t mean the north winds don’t knock them over.

It does mean they know the Creator of the wind has their backs.

They don’t fear the nightly news, although grieved by it.

They trust in the Word of God.

They call on the blood of Christ.

And they don’t wither.

Grow in Him today.

Saturday Confession: About that Apple Core

Posted by Julie on September 13, 2014 in About Me, encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, surrender |

This first appeared at Christians Read.

While I’m in the middle of unpacking boxes and getting things set up in our new home, our youngest asked if she could have an apple. She’s on a Granny Smith kick these days and likes me to cut it up. I have a Pampered Chef slicer that works like magic.

Except last night.

I tried every which way to get that apple cut. I pressed down as hard as I could hoping the core would break under the pressure.

The core never flinched.

I’m a visual person and right away I felt a check in my spirit.

These days, these last days where wars are popping up, diseases run rampant without borders, people rise up and claim they are savior and many follow—only those with a strong core are going to withstand.

Wow.

A strong core is someone who not only knows Christ in a personal way, but trusts Him. It doesn’t mean anyone is perfect or never has moments of doubt or fear.

But when the special news reports seem hourly and full of bad news—

When scandals appear to put criminals in a better financial bracket while we seem to work harder for less—

It’s tempting to think about bending.

Giving in.

Joining the world for just one choice.

Maybe two.

Remember, we’re in this world, but we aren’t of it.

We’re made in God’s image and He has a purpose for us.

Keep leaning on Him. Go hard after Him to learn strategies, wisdom, secrets only He can share.

And watch your core build to the point that when the fires come, you don’t just survive.

You thrive.

That’s a strong core.

Pain, Healing, and Coming Undone

Posted by Julie on August 2, 2012 in About Me, encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, surrender |

A couple weeks ago I was thinking about the pain associated with my wrist and how I underestimated it once the cast was off. With therapy I’m learning a lot of it was having no movement for so long. Once the cast was off the doctor instructed me to wear a brace, so I did. And boy, it hurt.

While I was thinking, K-Love was sharing with Kari Jobe about her song, Healer, and how blessed they were as anchors to hear her sing it live at church. Sure enough, they cue the same song.

And I came undone.

My wrist pain is someone else’s migraine is someone’s diabetes is someone’s cancer. God doesn’t invent these things, but He will use them to further His kingdom in ways we won’t understand.

May this song bless you as it did me.
