What motivated you to write Dockside Secrets?
Two factors served as motivation for beginning this new series of cozy mysteries. First, one year ago this month, my husband and I moved to a new area of the state. We had lived on the Texas coast for many years. We relocated to be closer to family members. Instead of living a few miles from the Gulf of America (or what was known as Gulf of Mexico), we are now on a lakeside cove near my original hometown. The move to a new area is such an exciting time. Everything feels new even though I was raised in this part of Texas, now, after more than forty years away from my hometown, I see the area with fresh eyes. New establishments, restaurants, golf courses, shops, and experiences.
The other factor that motivated me is a love for cozy mysteries. Although this is a new genre for me, I approached it with great excitement. I am a fan of old-fashioned gumshoe detectives but in the form of amateur sleuths! Coming from a belief of writing what you know, my characters reflect this season of my own life. The characters in Dockside Secrets are not young blushing brides or young eager men, but rather women and men of a “certain age.”
Finley Burke, a recent widow, moved to Sunset Cove outside the fictional town of Sagebrush Bend, for a new beginning. She soon meets her neighbors who soon form a team of amateur sleuths. Add the comic relief of a somewhat bumbling local police officer, a helpful detective, a slightly hysterical best friend, a helpful handyman, and a wealthy deceitful family, and the cast is complete.
In this small town, there are big secrets and when a storm brings a tackle box of hidden crimes beneath her dock, Finley and the group spring into action. The lake knows everything, but Finley and the others soon discover a web of old secrets.
Dockside Secrets is the first book in the new series. It is available in Kindle, audiobooks, Paperback, and Kindle Unlimited.

Terry Overton is a retired university professor of educational and school psychology. She has an Ed.D. in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Psychology. Her professional experience includes teaching public school, teaching at the university level, and being a college dean. She has two children, seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter. She seeks to answer God’s call to share the good news and grow the church by writing Christian books and devotionals.
