Tiffany Colter is Thankful for Jen Tucker’s The Day I Wore My Panties Inside Out—and Much More

Thankfulness by Tiffany Colter

When Julie originally said that she wanted people to share what they’re thankful for I had so many things. I’m entering the busy time of year for my business, my family is healthy, my husband is now 5 years cancer free and needs no further rechecks. And I love what I do.

Today there is so much more. I own a small subsidy press that publishes the books I help my clients write as well as books that I edit for people. I don’t make much money from it yet, but it allows me to help speakers, ministries, and others with an established platform get their book out.

Yesterday (Monday, November 14th) I found out that one of the books, The Day I Wore My Panties Inside Out is a semi-finalist in the Humor category at Goodreads.com. This is HUGE!! A little book from Writing Career Coach Press written by Jen Tucker [a children’s book author who kept me laughing with her funny stories] are standing toe-to-toe with books written by Ellen Degeneres, Tina Fey, and Betty White. I’m just in awe.

More than the recognition of this huge honor, and the fact that Jen is there as a write-in candidate, is the recognition of what God can do when we do something afraid. Jen and I were just doing an experiment. People say that non-fiction isn’t really selling. People say that Chick-Lit may not be the biggest thing going. People say you need to have a gigantic platform to succeed. People say that subsidy published books are substandard.

All of that was turned upside down yesterday for me.  That was happening in the midst of some really painful things in my personal life and my dryer breaking down on laundry day. [No, I couldn’t hang the clothes outside because we had thunderstorms all day. An anomaly in Michigan in November.] But, today Jen’s book—and Writing Career Coach Press—are getting national exposure. Today my husband found out it was a $15 fuse that blew on the dryer, so I will again have clean clothes. Today I got to spend the day doing what I love.

And all of those things are reasons to be thankful. The simple things, like construction on my way to the office, forgetting to put on deodorant this morning, and this silly pinch in my neck, are just minor. I can make them my focus, and then they’ll turn in to problems capable of destroying my day. But just like a homemade picture from a child is a small thing that can brighten a day, recognizing the blessings around me are really all that is required to have a good day. There is always something to be thankful for and there is always something to ruin our day. We decide which will happen based on which we magnify and which we ignore.
