Middle school is definitely not known to be the best season of a teen’s life. For our daughter, 7th grade was not the best, and her hope is that 8th grade will be a much better experience.
Hannah has Albrights Hereditary Osteodystrophy (AHO) where she learned last year her bones fused and her final height is most likely under 5 feet. She receives regular lab work and takes about a dozen medicines/supplements daily. Her condition is rare enough that we are not sure what to expect in her teen and adult years.
She also has congenital hypothyroidism and asthma, both issues were critical when she is baby, and the consequences are still manifesting as she ages. Academics are not easy for her, and many of the issues she deals with (short term memory, sequencing, coordination) are not always obvious, so she is at times misunderstood.
She has been praying for a best friend, especially at school, for years. School was extra lonely for her last year, and other places she enjoyed going weren’t always kind experiences. When we added all this together, the girl we knew who was full of smiles and pizzazz started to dim, and it has been hard to watch.
This project is because give or take, school has about 180 days. If there is a change in someone, you will hear they did an 180. That’s what this page is about. I’m asking that each person write ONE encouraging note. Each school day we will read a note, and together, all your messages will take a school year to read—and it will encourage!
More than that, I completely understand our child isn’t the only one wishing for better circumstances. If you know someone that could use a kind message, feel free to use any of the messages shared on this page. You can put them in lunchboxes, on a pillow, etc…
It’s that simple. It is NOT a place to suggest medical information, get political in any way. Kind messages only. Anything outside of the goal here will be deleted/blocked.
Let’s do a 180 together!
