Character Confession: I Wish You Owned a Drive-In
It’s been about a month since I blogged about my 2011 drive-in experience. Since then, I’ve received so much feedback regarding how to handle it. Facebook, e mails, phone, and in person. There wasn’t one piece of bad advice.
So I thought I’d share an update. Although I haven’t been back to the drive-in, my husband and son have. They said in less than 5 minutes the same man on the golf cart was telling them they had to move. Friends reported the same thing. Apparently he is the owner, and he wants everyone to park well to fit more cars in. I get that. His demeanor is the same, and everyone said his parking rules border on the ridiculous.
I haven’t been back. Hubby said he knew the moment the man accused our kids of lying and wrote down our license plate, I’d never return. Maybe he’s right. I know when people bring up going there, my stomach starts a transformation that is something like Bruce Banner to the Hulk. But the movie they went to was a guy night and we still have a younger child to think about. I stayed home to have a girl’s night with her.
A week or so ago a friend shared that another drive-in in the same city got a great review from her friend. That friend noted that the service was so nice and refreshing, she vowed never to return to the drive-in I blogged about. The nice drive-in also has laser tag, and apparently two screens.
My guess is we’re going to give that place a try. I’m not in a hurry, these outings were never a great thrill for me to begin with, and now I have a broken wrist, stiff knee, and sore tailbone to contend with, so we’ll see.
But you guys rock. I wish you owned a drive-in. You know how to treat a family right.
I have an update to this update. With my wrist, knee, and tailbone our family and friends visited another drive-in the same city. The staff was polite and friendly. We had a group of 12 that played laser tag, and I was able to watch from an observation deck. My cast was neon in the game room. It was a wonderful experience. We found a new drive-in.
