Nancy Naigle: Christmas Angels

Thank you so much for having me, Julie!

I’m so excited about my new book. CHRISTMAS ANGELS just released today. Liz and Matt’s story is set in a fictional mountain town in North Carolina. All the books I write are small town love stories. Some romance, other women’s fiction, but my love for these Main Street, USA destinations comes through as a character in their own right.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Growing up, Liz Westmoreland dreamed of taking over her grandparent’s inn located in the small mountain town of Antler Creek only for it to be sold before she ever got the chance. While browsing the internet, she stumbles upon a listing for what looks to be the picturesque inn and it’s set to go to auction. Liz places a bid, and by a miracle, wins the auction. But when she gets there, she finds the property in significant disrepair.

When Matt Hardy narrowly lost the inn and property that butted his land, he just hoped it wasn’t another city slicker coming to make matters worse after the previous owners gutted the place for an art gallery. But the minute he recognized the sweet, freckle-faced girl from his childhood and heard her plans to reopen the inn, he jumps at the chance to help his childhood crush restore a place where he made so many fond memories.

While working on repairs, Liz and Matt discover her grandmother’s collection of angels in one of the cabins. When the angels start mysteriously showing up all over the inn, she begins to look at them as reassurance—that restoring the inn is what she’s meant to do. But when an accident leaves Liz feeling like she made a mistake, will Matt—and the residents of Antler Creek—be able to show Liz that she’s found a home? And possibly true love as well?

SOME INSIDE SCOOP 😉:

A real-life incident made its way into this story. Almost two years ago we had six inches of snow in one night here in North Carolina. That may not sound like a big deal to some of y’all, but where I live, near Winston-Salem in the middle of the state, we don’t get snow like that very often.

I was home alone left to feed the horses. No big deal. I used to live on a goat farm. I can feed animals. I put on my super-cute pink and black snow boots and my heavy hooded Outback jacket. My phone was in the red, so I stuck it on the charger and headed out with my two dogs, Dakota (chocolate Lab) and Sarge (a Great Pyrenees Mastiff puppy—yes, like Elvis in the book!). The air was fresh and a light snow fell as the dogs and I hoofed it through the snow to the barn which sits about 300 yards back from the house.

We have three quarter horses. A beautiful dapple grey, a bay and my pretty palomino. With the horses greedily gobbling the food and snatching hay between snorts and whinnies, I made my way to the front gate where the water trough. Lifting the hydrant handle was more difficult than usual in the freezing temperatures, but I managed.

I made sure the dogs were still in sight, then headed back to turn off the water. The fresh snow looked flat and smooth, but beneath all that snow there was a trench hidden below where we’d run the water lines back to the barn. I stepped forward and my left foot went straight down into the trench. I was above my knee in the snow, and pitched forward on my face.

Dumbstruck, I laid there for a minute before I tried to get up. My left foot hurt. I thought I might have sprained it, but as I tried to stand–I knew for sure something was wrong. I hopped to the water hydrant to turn it off. By then the pain was real and I was crying. No phone and no one within ear shot. I got on my hands and knees and started crawling. It sure looks far from the ground! The dogs were pretty excited about me crawling through the snow. They raced around me and jumped over me, absolutely loving the new game. Dakota did at least stop to kiss away my tears.

My hands stung from the icy snow, and I had to get up on my knees to try to move forward, but that hurt my ankle even worse. Finally, under a constant prayer for God to get me to the driveway I made it there, and then into the house where I was able to call a friend. Ultimately, I ended up with a ruptured Achilles.

I didn’t have the heart to give Liz that injury, but she does experience that scary moment in the snow when she realizes she’s hurt and has no one but God to help her. Thank goodness He’s always there.

Thanks for spending a little time with me today. I hope you thoroughly enjoy this story.

Hugs and happy reading,

Nancy
