Book Review: The Dance by Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley

Because I’m asked to review books on a fairly consistent basis, it’s not often I get to choose a title and read it because I just plain want to. But when I see a title from marriage expert Gary Smalley, I’m in. And I had to share my thoughts about his new series with Dan Walsh. The first book is called The Dance.

Book Description

Jim Anderson is a successful businessman, and his wife, Marilyn, is the perfect wife. And why wouldn’t she be? He gives her everything she needs. That’s why Jim never expected to come home one day and find Marilyn gone.
After 27 years of marriage, Marilyn has had enough of feeling unloved and neglected. She wants to experience some measure of happiness before she’s too old to enjoy it, even signing up for dance lessons, something Jim would never do. What will it take for Jim to finally become the man Marilyn needs him to be?

Combining the literary talents of bestselling author Dan Walsh and the relationship expertise of bestselling author Gary Smalley, The Dance is the first novel in The Restoration Series. Readers will get caught up in these flawed but sincere members of the Anderson family as they rediscover genuine love and start a transformation that ultimately affects all of them.

My own marriage has felt the heartbreak Jim and Marilyn are going through. Life gets in the way and work takes over. There was a season we weren’t just two ships in the night, we were two planets not even close. And Marilyn’s prayers mirrored my own.

I thought the authors did a great job writing multi dimensional characters who are all experiencing the fallout of Jim and Marilyn’s issues. The progression of troubles and potential resolution were natural and very relatable. I found it all so well done that if I were a counselor, I’d recommend married couples read the book for discussion.

This is just book one, and I encourage everyone to read the series. I recently finished The Promise and again, it’s well written and one couples could relate to about communication and honesty.

I truly encourage everyone to say yes to The Dance.
