My 12 in 12 Summer Update

Patty Wysong has a great meme going called 12 in 12, listing 12 goals for 2012. Here is my update.

1. Finish my first manuscript. I was getting there, and then I broke my wrist, my writing wrist. I can type, but at an angle that hurts after 1500 words. My priority is to finish critiques, articles, blog, then the manuscript. Guess what isn’t getting done.

2. Start the agent process. I need to complete #1, but it remains a prayer.

3. Attend a writer’s conference. There’s actually progress here. I didn’t travel to one, but there was an online conference through the Catholic Writers Guild. I learned a lot and am grateful.

4. Use a passport. I finished this one, yay!

5. Finish that c25k app. Sigh. I lost the pro app. Installed the free. Tried on laptop. Uninstalled on phone. Installed new app. If I worked out as hard with my legs as I have installing, I’d be an Olympian. My summer update–with a healing knee a broken wrist, I lost more time, until I realized I could do the app in the water. If I can hear the changes on the deck where I plan to keep phone, I’m good to go.

6. Prune.  I went for it. I made cuts in my life that needed it. Not easy, became awkward, but I did what I knew was right in a few places in my life. Pruned even more in June.

7. Be social. I’m shocked at the progress on this one. I started a local chapter of Praise and Coffee.  Our second meeting had 25 ladies. We’ve hosted impromptu swim parties, so out of my comfort zone.  We went to a drive in with 14 others, again, not my safe place.

8. Date my husband. This needs work. We did watch “The Proposal,” and even “Courageous.” But that’s about it in two month’s time. Pathetic.

9. Write a book with my daughter. This is in the works. She tells me the premise, character sketches, take away lesson, and chapter-by chapter plan. She is not yet 9 and I’m floored by her imagination. The story is about a girl who took ballet class in NYC but her dad transfers to Chicago, where her mom enrolls her in hip hop. She isn’t transitioning as fast as she wants, and is frustrated, especially because her big sister is learning with ease. The class has an opportunity for one boy and one girl to snag a lead in an outreach at a park, and Katelyn wants it. So does Stephanie, the mean girl, and Kaycee, Katelyn’s new best friend. My daughter created a pastor named Pastor Goldstein (I laugh every time) who will teach forgiveness. She’s got humor in the story, a tween crush on the male dancer named Austin Trent, and a lot of heart. I’m not working as fast as she wants, given my slow wrist pace, but we’re at about 4k. I’m so proud of her.

10. Continue the anonymous wordpress project I have going with my son. Wow, forgot about this one. He had a rough month and just getting through it was a goal, and with God’s grace, we did.

11. Visit our local Rescue Mission. Nuts! They had another open house and I missed it.

12. Showcase my nature pictures somehow. Done. You can find them on Pinterest.
