One Big Buzz

Pay attention tonight. Chances are you’re going to see women talking faster, unable to sit still. Don’t worry. It’s the caffeine.

Praise and Coffee groups are meeting tonight, literally across the world.

As you read this I’m most likely throwing things together to prepare for mine. Our group is having their first meeting ever, and felt there was no better night to kick it off than tonight.

What are Praise and Coffee Nights? It simply started with a pastor’s wife wanting deeper friendships. She had a cup of coffee with a friend, literally sharing over a kitchen counter. She blogged about her experience and the comments poured in asking the same thing: How do I start a Praise and Coffee?

Praise and Coffee Nights have exploded and I know in the research I did to plan my group, the hunger for friendship and the need for encouragement and laughter is there. We know and appreciate Bible studies. Most of us lead them. We work. We are wives. We parent. We’re grandparents. But we hunger for something deeper.

Praise and Coffee is on Facebook and they have an e-Zine that I believe is second to none. It is gorgeous and full of encouragement for women.

My group is the Greater Youngstown Praise and Coffee. There are a few suburbs around Youngstown and the replies were so strong that if we want to meet in private homes, I have enough homes to plan out a year’s worth of meetings. However, we might choose coffee shops to attend as well. I know we’re planning every other month, and will switch the days to make sure women have a chance to attend at least one here and there to experience what it is about.

For this organized person, it’s a step outside the comfort zone to just let this form itself. The host for tomorrow has the coffee, I will bring lemonade, and guests have been asked to bring a light refreshment if they are available. My research showed they don’t want an agenda with speakers, so I have a very quick ice breaker planned and the rest is working on those friendships. Laughing.

And of course, drinking coffee.
