What’s the Right Response When the World is Allegedly Ending?

By now I think everyone is aware of Howard Camping and his prediction that the world was going to end Saturday evening. Although I don’t know anyone who believed him, I am friends with people who watched friends not just buy his word, but sell everything in preparation. Although Mr. Camping’s so specific word led itself to a lot of jokes, there is a reality to think about. There are some devastated people feeling very lost right now. I bet there are divided families and empty bank accounts, and that, is no joke.

I joked on FB that it would only be the end of the world if I ran out of coffee and wouldn’t you know, I did. But through the experience I kept thinking about two sets of people.

Those that put all their literal stock in this man’s prediction.

Those that heard the word rapture and end of the world for the first time.

If you have no personal faith in God and His Son you are more than welcome to look at the Bible as a history book more than an instruction book.  Find commentaries that explain the prophecies. Jesus has a perfect record. I think you’ll experience something life changing no matter how hard you intend not to.

Thing is, He’s perfect and made it clear not even He knows when He’s returning. That’s something His Dad, Our Heavenly Father, kept for Himself to know and us to find out. When it’s time, there will be no mistake. It will be a world wide event that literally will happen in the blink of an eye. There will be a lot of surprises.  Those that looked the part and you were certain were solid Christians were dressing the part in name only. Jesus isn’t looking for wannabes, He’s looking for His bride. His people may have called His name and asked Him in during a gang fight or in prison. There could be women who don’t even know where a church is who recently found the Savior. Whatever the person looks like, it is the heart that matters. Heaven has only one question and it isn’t what church did you go to.

Do you know Him? Do you KNOW the Son called Christ?

Your answer has eternal consequences. You can wait until tomorrow to answer but you aren’t promised tomorrow will come. We simply don’t know.

I do know once presented with the gospel you have a choice. Choose Jesus as a friend and invite Him into your life or not. Not making an answer is an answer just the same.  If you’ve read this and this is new to you, well it has been presented to you.  Go here to learn more. Who can explain it better than Billy Graham?  Not me. I’ll let you read his Godly wisdom.

What if you know this truth and believe it? Go and tell others in a way that is comfortable to you. Maybe you start a softball team this summer and end with a devotional each time. We have plenty of pastors. Just go and do. There are so many people looking for answers, and what Harold Camping predicted proved how desperate people are for hope.  I remember hearing on the radio a pastor who called a psychic just to learn more about why they do what they do and about the customers.  The psychic said they get thousands of calls each day and that was before the recession. They said they want hope and answers and no one else is stepping up, so they call the psychics.

There is hope.  There is some One to follow, but not any man.  Will you take that step today?
