My Affair Mentality Moment—Engaged Update

Posted by Julie on May 15, 2017 in About Me, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, Writing |

It’s been TOO long since I’ve checked in and said hello, and I hate it. This blog is my baby, and I miss it when I’m not personally posting. I thought I’d give you an update on my writing and the “Oh-oh” moment I had.

My Affair Mentality Moment came while finishing Engaged.

ENGAGED is set to release next month and I’m excited. This is the third story in my Surrendering Time series, and it’s Trish’s turn. Trish Maxwell was the bad girl in ENTRUSTED, but she’s back in Speculator Falls with egg on her face and a lot of apologies to make. Her dream job in NYC was a nightmare and now she’s living with her parents working at her mom’s department store. Her hometown starts growing on her, especially after she meets paramedic Wayne Peterson. Yet everywhere she seems to go, people want to know what her plan is. Will she stay in town? Go back to New York City, or something else?

This story has been easier to write than ENTANGLED, I think because I can relate more to Trish than Carla. However, the closer I got to the end, the more my mind drifted to what’s next. Not only did a six book series drop from heaven onto my lap, but then another idea to write a series with my teen daughter came to mind for the summer.

I’ve been filled with plot ideas, characters. Themes. Character traits. Names. Title ideas. So much new to work through that the thought of going back to the old had me dragging my feet a bit. I reached a place where I had to press pause on the new ideas and put all my attention on ENGAGED.

It was then I realized that’s an affair mentality. I’ve seen it play out on TV, country music, and sadly, real life. Marriage that feels lonely, selfish, distant, too comfortable, whatever—and the new person comes around. They say the right things. Listen. Spend time. Show affection. And the new person starts to be on the front burner. The spouse is old news, it’s too late as far as the drifting spouse is concerned, and sparks become a forest fire.

Okay, so my writing wandering isn’t quite the same as a marital affair, but the comparison was enough to send me back to ENGAGED and the current work before I move on.

That’s my update. How about you? What’s new?

***

At the end of the month I will be sharing ENTRUSTED with newsletter subscribers to prepare them for ENGAGED. If you’d like a monthly update with giveaways, author updates, recipes, book reviews and more, subscribe for free at juliearduini.com. Make sure to tell a reader!

Valentine’s Day: Surrender, Chocolate and Interview on Blog Talk Radio

Posted by Julie on February 13, 2017 in About Me, ACFW, encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, surrender, Writing |

Have you ever connected with someone through e mail and it was just a click? You felt like you knew the person and wanted to have coffee with them? That has been my feeling towards author and blog talk radio host Patti Shene. Through ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers,) we somehow crossed paths online and touched base because of the Adirondack Mountains.

You probably know my Surrendering Time series, ENTRUSTED, ENTANGLED, and ENGAGED are all based in the Upstate NY region that features 1 million acres. Patti has history there as well, so I always enjoy when I hear from her.

Tomorrow Patti and I are going to have a chat, and YOU are invited! Patti hosts STEP INTO THE LIGHT, a program on Blog Talk Radio. My interview will be live at 10am Eastern. We plan to talk about surrender issues, chocolate, and Valentine’s Day. I’m sure we’ll talk about writing, too.

If you would like to learn more about any of these things, or, if you’re just curious to hear what an Upstate NY accent sounds like, come check it out!

Listeners can access show via telephone or over the internet

Internet URLhttp://ow.ly/yk19308Yh9G

Guest call in: 646-564-9712

I’m thankful for people like Patti that have a passion to share her time to encourage others. She has a great roster of speakers who have given their personal stories to share in hopes of helping listeners. I hope you check it out!

New Kindle or Echo? ENTRUSTED Free eBook December 26-28

Posted by Julie on December 26, 2016 in About Me, encouragement, Julie Arduini, Writing |

If your Christmas was like mine, you’re overstuffed on fudge but hungry for books to put on your new tablet or Kindle. I’ve heard many talk about their new Amazon Echo or Echo Dot, and guess what? Alexa can read books to you.

I wanted to end this crazy but amazing year by celebrating. I never thought 2016 would have me publishing books through my new writing and speaking ministry, Surrendered Scribe Media. In May I re released ENTRUSTED and released ENTANGLED. The reviews for Carla’s story on surrendering regret are more than I could have hoped for. That was a HARD book to write, and now I get it. I’m thankful God is using it to help people let go of their past.

So to celebrate these things AND put some FREE reading on your new device, ENTRUSTED eBook is FREE December 26, 27, and 28. Wait, I’m not done. ENTANGLED will be FREE December 29 and 30. Both books are compatible with Alexa.

(Check price first.)

ENTRUSTEDJenna Anderson leaves her Ohio hometown for the unknown in Speculator Falls. She’s determined to make her new job as senior center work and become one of the locals.

Ben Regan’s family is the backbone of Speculator Falls and he’s made a vow to protect the rural village. When his grandfather passes away and his former girlfriend leaves without even saying goodbye, Ben’s determined to prevent further transition in his life.

But Jenna produces a lot of change for Ben in a book about surrendering the present fears we have about change and wanting to belong.

ENTANGLED:Carla Rowling has been given her dream of attending cosmetology school. The gift is so generous she feels unworthy because of choices she made as a teen. The pressure mounts as Carla juggles school, is a single mom, helps her best friend Jenna plan her wedding, spends time with boyfriend Will Marshall, and deals with the fact that her son’s father is back in their lives.

Will Marshall is the one Speculator Falls resident everyone can count on. His truck deliveries are reliable. He’s the first to help friends like Ben Regan with boat work or be a card partner with Bart Davis. Will’s ready to settle down with Carla, loving her is natural. He’s bonded with her son, Noah. But when Carla starts cosmetology school, she puts emotional distance between her and Will.

Can Carla release her past and create a future full of highlights, or, will she burn her options worse than a bad perm?

Thank you for being loyal readers. Here’s believing 2017 will be full of exceptional blessings!

Feel free to share this with your favorite readers!

What it’s Like to do Life with Me

Posted by Julie on October 26, 2016 in About Me, encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, Speaking, Writing |

Hello? Remember me? I can’t remember the last time I blogged an update. It has been a very busy season and I was blessed when Kathy Carlton Willis and her team sent me some wonderful blog posts to share this fall. They were wonderful and spanned throughout late September and October. Thank you, Kathy and team!

I thought I’d share what’s been going on and what’s coming up.

  • I finished teaching Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst in as many as 5 different ways. 51thstz0ljl-_sx331_bo1204203200_I’ve never done this before and it was a HUGE step of faith. I taught it as a Sunday School Class and as it usually goes, I think I learned the most. I was able to lower my walls and make new friends. There have been times my biggest rejections came from teaching, so this was HARD. But God saw me through it, and I’m thankful. I taught twice a week through an online Facebook group (no video) and that was special. I’m so proud of those ladies. I also met with people privately and/or shared my journaling to encourage those I know are struggling. This book is a life-changer. I put it up there with Beth Moore’s Believing God
  • My husband is on the tail end of teaching seven weeks straight. Most of those weeks were not local, so that put me on full-time duty. It isn’t easy for any of us, but this is new for him, training on a full-time schedule, and he enjoys it.
  • Our oldest started college. I didn’t think much of the transition because he is a commuter student, and honestly, I’m still recovering from his senior year of high school. His grades are amazing and he’s made a couple connections. We see more change on the horizon come January, but we think they are open doors we are excited to see him walk through.
  • Our youngest started middle school. I also didn’t think much of the transition because physically, it is a move down the hall. No big deal, right? But, I forgot the drama. So much with girls and middle school. I really struggled with this one, but through it, she learned wisdom and discernment, and boundaries. I’m drained, and the hard part is, we’re just entering the teen years.

There was also a visit to my home town and a quick trip to the Adirondacks. I’m still critiquing and writing ENGAGED. I’m not where I want to be with it, but I have much of it plotted, so it should flow well. The feedback I’m receiving from promotions I did with ENTRUSTED and ENTANGLED has been so positive, I’m so grateful. I also did a book club for ENTANGLED and that went really well. I’m trying one for ENTRUSTED on my author page, but it is slow going. I think that will pick up once more readers find me. And I pray they do!

At the end of Uninvited, Lysa TerKeurst challenges readers to have the courage to ask loved ones, “What’s it like to do life with me?” Boy, that is tough. I haven’t done the official assessment yet, but late August my husband shared something that I knew was a blindspot for me, I didn’t see it. And instead of feeling rejected, I knew it was an area to work on.

So that’s everything going on right now. Tired? I am. I didn’t even talk about all the menopause stuff and the changed I’ve implemented. But that’s what life is like with me right now. Busy!

Stay tuned, throughout November guest bloggers will be sharing why they are thankful. I LOVE this series, I think it is our 9th year. I still have openings, you do NOT have to be a writer to participate. All you need to be is thankful!

To sign up, find a date that is open in November, click the box on the right, hit submit in the center bottom box. It will confirm and send you an email, and also a reminder. If you have trouble, let me know at juliearduini@juliearduini.com. I’d be happy to help.

My eBooks are FREE Friday and Saturday!

Posted by Julie on September 23, 2016 in encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, surrender, Writing |

My eBooks are FREE Friday and Saturday!

There are writing moments I ask why.

  • Why am I writing when life is pulling me so many directions?
  • Why write if the words are hard to come by?
  • Why write when it is so lonely?
  • Why write if it feels like no one knows or seems to care?

Well, I write because I was created to write stories that show readers there is freedom through surrender. I’m so passionate about the message that I often do the opposite of what markets advise.

Like I enjoy offering eBooks for free.

And that’s just what I’m doing.

On Friday, September 23 (check price first, the sale tends to start after 3am Eastern,) and Saturday, September 24 (again, check price first,) ENTRUSTED and ENTANGLED will be FREE eBooks.

I want these books to reach as many readers as possible.

Not only do I want readers to experience the freedom through surrender by reading my fiction, I also am starting a book club on my Facebook Author Page in October. I’d love readers to join me as I discuss assigned chapters. I’ll also be sharing the writing process AND secrets behind the chapters. I love doing events like this, and again, the best way to get started is to offer you these eBooks for free so you can join me.

My eBooks are FREE Friday and Saturday!

My eBooks are FREE Friday and Saturday!

Spread the word, won’t you?

Like my Author Page and in October, we’ll have the Book Club there—http://facebook.com/JulieArduiniAuthor

Grab ENTRUSTED as a FREE eBook Friday 9/23 and Saturday 9/24 (check price first)

https://www.amazon.com/Entrusted-Surrendering-Present-Time/dp/B01FGC1Z8W/

Grab ENTANGLED as a FREE eBook Friday, 9/23 and Saturday, 9/24 (check price first)

https://www.amazon.com/Entangled-Surrendering-Past-Time-Book-ebook/dp/B01FG7JALG/

Both eBooks are also FREE on Kindle Unlimited.

I’ll be offering this same eBook sale October 7-9.

The private feedback and the Amazon reviews are confirming that these books have purpose. Readers are finding friends in the characters and they are finding the courage to surrender fear, loss, change, and regret.

Join me on the journey, won’t you?
