Helping kids discover God’s never-changing, never-failing, never-ending love 

I recently welcomed my second grandchild (first granddaughter) into the world in September. What an absolute joy! While I’m fairly new to grandparenting, with my first not quite three years old, I’ve quickly discovered that the relationship between a grandparent and grandchild is a very special one. I believe grandparents are uniquely positioned to positively influence this next generation, and build a spiritual legacy that will make a difference for the Kingdom. I consider it a joy and a calling.

So I thought this the perfect time to introduce an important character in the Guess How Much God Loves You picture book series, Papa Joe. 

Papa Joe holds a special place in my heart because he’s modeled after my own dad who went home to be with the Lord in 2019 ❤️ 

Who is Papa Joe?

He is Lucy’s warm and wise grandfather, limited physically by his mobility scooter but by no means limited spiritually. In fact, it’s Papa Joe who Lucy comes to with questions about God. You see, Lucy is doubting God’s love because of some hurtful and hateful things said to her by her classmates. But she came to the right person with these doubts; her trusted advisor Papa Joe, who patiently takes time to reassure Lucy of God’s unconditional love. In his wisdom and with clarity on his calling as a grandfather, he takes Lucy straight to the Bible for answers to her tough questions, but in this story they don’t just read the Bible, they jump into it! They take an exciting journey back to the beginning, to God’s miraculous creation where they discover His good plan, His power and creativity, and His love for all people, including Lucy.

I’ve worked with children throughout my adult life, and one of my biggest desires has been to help them see themselves through God’s eyes. To know they are immensely valued, and unconditionally loved by the Creator of the universe. 

So when I sat down to write a children’s book series I knew it would have to include two things that are important to raising strong, spiritually healthy children.

First, it had to be Bible based. This is because God’s Word isliving and powerful; it’s what changes lives. I wanted to point young people directly to the Bible, helping them understand it can be trusted, and that God can be trusted. This book series does just that by covering key events in biblical history that demonstrate God’s all powerful, all knowing, and all loving character towards all people.

Second, it had to deliver a clear, consistent message of God’s never-changing, never-failing, never-ending love. Kids are hungry to know unconditional love, which can only be completely fulfilled by God.  That’s why more than a fun story, I wanted to create something that pointed kids to God’s unchangeable truths and His unchanging love for them. And I wanted Lucy’s partner to be a wise, warm, witty, and accessible character – just like my dad 🙂

Guess How Much God Loves You is a seven part series that covers unique periods in Bible history that will help young readers grow a firm foundation of faith in God and His Good Character.

This first book starts at the very beginning with the Creation Account as recorded in Genesis 🌎  Young readers will discover just how this marvelous, majestic world was created, and learn about their unique role in it as special creations of God, formed in His image.
