Book and DVD Review: Lysa TerKeurst’s Made to Crave

Welcome! Chances are you’re checking in after the Superbowl. As I type I don’t know who won but I’m good either way. My stepchildren grew up in Wisconsin and our son is a Steelers fan. I stayed a neutral Colts fan!

It’s possible you are having a Superbowl food hangover. I can’t think of a better place for you to be than right here.

Today I’m blogging about Lysa TerKeurst‘s NYT bestseller, Made to Crave. I have the book, DVD and participant’s guide and I’m going to tell you about each one.

Made to Crave is not a diet book. It’s full of not just Lysa’s story but other women and their desire to be full. In every case these women realized diet after diet, goals reached and goals failed that no matter whether they were wearing the skinny jeans or observing them in the closet—they were still hungry.

Lysa uses Biblical examples and again, experiences with other women to show what has been the truth all along:

We are made to crave.

Things is, we lost our focus and craved food (or any idol/addiction/stronghold) instead of God. Made to Crave is all about embracing who you are in God’s eyes and filling up in Him.

Here is a breakdown of the Chapters:

What’s Really Going on Here

Replacing My Cravings

Getting a Plan

Friends Don’t Let Friends Eat Before Thinking

Made for More

Growing Closer to God

I’m Not Defined by Numbers

Making Peace with the Realities of My Body

But Exercise Makes Me Want to Cry

This Isn’t Fair

Stinkin’, Horrible, Rotten No Good Day

The Curse of the Skinny Jeans

Overindulgence

Emotional Emptiness

The Demon in the Chips Poster

Why Diets Don’t Work

The Very Next Choice We Make

Things Lost, Better Things Gained

Live as an Overcomer

I start my local Made to Crave “Journey Group” through church tomorrow so I’ve taken my time reading the book so I’m not too far ahead of my girls, yet aware of the material for this review and online presentations. I’ve read enough to tell you this:

Made to Crave is a bestseller for a reason.

Lysa is having Monday webcasts Mondays at 8pm for a couple more weeks and the weeks I’ve watched I can feel the electricity through cyberspace. There is something God is doing with this book and Lysa is right, it is not about the numbers on the scale. It’s about being hungry for Him. I’m finding online and around town women who are famished, hungrier than ever for things of God.

Made to Crave is a full course gourmet meal right down to a beverage cart of desserts set in an open living room with a glass of lemonade with your best galpal. Lysa brings life changing material that is rich to savor long after you close the book but she presents in a way you’re just certain you’re sitting down with a friend face to face. I love her authenticity and right off the bat she will tell you through the entire experience, she still does not crave a carrot stick.

Lysa TerKeurst’s Made to Crave Participant’s Guide

I just received the DVD and guide two days ago. I’ve looked through and I have to say I’m very impressed. Although I didn’t require it for my local group I’m going to highly recommend it. It is a perfect companion to the book and DVD. The discussion questions are set up in a way that is heaven for a group leader. There are shaded parts explaining what to incorporate if your meeting is two hours. That is so helpful for me.

The additional material for one on one study looks amazing. I can’t wait to dive in. I’ve done my share of blogger reviews and personal Bible study and I have to say I’ve never seen an organization put so much available for the reader.  They’ve worked hard to keep prices affordable. It is worth it to purchase everything available for Made to Crave.

Lysa TerKeurst’s Made to Crave DVD

Again, I just received the DVD but watched the first session and peeked around. This is a great complement to the book.  Lysa presents empowering and encouraging material without rehashing what you read in the book. The session titles are perfect. One highlight I’ve never mentioned in a group DVD is the setting.  It is so colorful and homey I want to be there too.

Since we just finished the Superbowl let me summarize Made to Crave in football terms.

Everything about Made to Crave is a touchdown.  Go get these materials. You won’t be sorry.

I was provided all Made to Crave materials by Zondervan in exchange for a honest review. Today’s post is through the Litfuse blog tour.

I just ordered the DVD, too. I’m praying about starting a group. I haven’t really been able to benefit much from the webcasts because I don’t have good internet out here in the mountains. It’s so choppy. I hope they decided to put all of them on DVD format as well so we can all benefit from them.

I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They’re very convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are very brief for newbies. May just you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
