With Each New Dawn by Gail Kittleson

Green stands for hope…the color of sprouts in spring. Gray has a more subtle nuance—in an Iowa November, cloudy gray can be depressing.

But what divides green and gray…only a few drops of color.

Sometimes life turns “iffy” like this, with a fine line between plus and minus. We naturally label things…good and evil, true and false, desirable and undesirable, so ambivalence challenges us.

This word, one of my favorites, refers to holding two opposing emotions at the same time. Thus, we speak of happy tears, bittersweet memories, and good grief. How can a person act naturally, or be clearly confused?

We’d rather handle feelings one at a time, right? But reality rarely complies with our “druthers,” and conflicting situations cause us great angst. If we had no decisions to make, life would be so much easier.

If you can relate, you’ll understand Kate’s incompatible emotions in my latest release, A PURPOSE TRUE, when she’s chosen to identify a traitor to the French Resistance—someone she’d worked closely with and trusted. Realizing how he’s betrayed the cause, she has no choice in this matter, but the facts fail to alleviate her tensions.

Knowing that her action will result in the traitor’s death leaves her conflicted…just one example of the conundrums produced by war.

Ambivalence has accompanied Kate’s entire life, actually. You can view the beginning of her story here:     https://youtu.be/LHDwp61r5Q4

Believe me, the tension continues in the final book, A Purpose True! But with the incredible stress of Kate’s clandestine work come new friendships, fresh glimpses of beauty in a war-torn world, and even the kind of love that lasts.

Bio:  When Gail’s not steeped in World War II research, drafting scenes, or deep in one edit or another, she does a limited amount of editing for other authors. She also facilitates writing workshops and classes, both in Iowa and Arizona, where winters find her enjoying the incredibly gorgeous Ponderosa forest under the Mogollon Rim. Favorites:  walking, reading, meeting new people, and hearing from readers who fall in love with her characters.

I’m Thankful by Linda Hoover

I’M THANKFUL

I try to be thankful every day, but this month of Thanksgiving provides a time to truly focus on what we’ve been given. I can never thank God enough for his saving grace and all the benefits that come with being his child. Family, church, friends and God’s provision for our daily needs are something I never want to take for granted. I’m also thankful for the imagination he’s given me and the opportunity to share the stories that want to be told. I hope readers will be entertained, while seeing God in all of life’s situations.

LIGHTER THAN AIR

Lighter Than Air by Linda Hoover: Coming Soon

When Elena Bishop lost her mother at age twelve, her father lost his purpose for living. Now they’ll lose their home unless he can pay his gambling debts by the end of the summer. After praying, Elena believes God has given her the idea to have a family camp on the grounds of their estate.

Justin Ramsay, Elena’s neighbor, dreams of going to America to write a book. His older brother believes Justin should join the military, but offers him a deal. If Justin can keep Elena and the neighborhood safe until he returns with his American bride, he’ll pay for the trip. Elena might be impulsive and accident-prone, but Justin believes she’s nothing he can’t handle.

Elena and Justin disagree over the camp, even as an attraction ignites between them. Within the first two weeks a little boy falls into the cold-water spring, and problems escalate to vandalism and threatening letters. As more money is needed, Elena goes to Brighton to see a man who gives gas balloon rides. What she finds lands both her and Justin in a situation beyond their control. With the deadline for the debt looming, will their insistence on doing things their way give them both a happy ending, or destroy everything they’ve hoped for?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Linda Hoover lives in west-central Ohio with her husband, son, and grandson. She earned a degree in psychology at Anderson University where she learned the voices in her head were actually characters from stories waiting to be told.

By day, Linda works as a library assistant at a branch of the county’s public library system where two of her duties include choosing books for the young adult and Christian fiction areas. As a result, she has a very long “To Read” list. In her spare time she writes the stories her voices tell her.

FREE ENGAGED eBook August 18 & 19

Posted by Julie on August 17, 2017 in About Me, encouragement, God's Word, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons, Writing |

I know towards the end of summer, many people still have travel plans and a need for a good read.

I have on my tablet a load of books I want to read for enjoyment, not for writing or review, so my thought is perhaps that is your case, too.

Let’s add a FREE eBook to your collection, okay?

On Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19, ENGAGED will be a free eBook on Amazon. Make sure to double check as glitches sometimes happen, but after 3am Eastern on the 18th, you should be good to go.

About ENGAGED:

Trish Maxwell’s back in Speculator Falls with egg on her face and a lot of apologies to make. She left the mountain town for her dream job in New York City, only to come back unemployed. With no prospects, she works at her family’s department store and makes amends as she finds a new passion creating window displays for Adirondack businesses. She works hard and tries to convince the people of Speculator Falls she’s changed for the better.
As Trish pitches in with community events, she meets paramedic Wayne Peterson, the one man who doesn’t seem to judge her. She even makes friends with Jenna Regan, who helps Trish when people demand to know what’s next in Trish’s life. Living in New York City has been her goal, but the more she’s around Wayne and the Adirondack area, the more she’s drawn to revising her plans. Just when Trish thinks the plan for her life’s coming together, a second chance comes her way that could give her every career goal she’s ever wanted, but threaten to tear her and Wayne apart. Can Trish surrender fears about her future and discover God’s plan for her?

Although this is book 3 in a series, I believe you can read it as a standalone without confusion. However, if you would like to start from the beginning, ENTRUSTED is a free eRead at juliearduini.com, and ENTANGLED is available at a low cost. All books are available for print, AND I created a devotional ebook using the characters from this series as well as my surrender stories to help you in your surrender journey.

You can locate FINDING FREEDOM THROUGH SURRENDER here.

Feel free to spread the word to other readers. If you enjoy my books, reviews on Amazon and Goodreads are the best way. The more reviews a book has, the more Amazon makes it visible. Thank you for considering Julie Arduini books for your summer!

Don’t Miss This: Season of Hope by Sara Jane Jacobs

Posted by Julie on July 14, 2017 in encouragement, God's Word, Guest blogger, Julie Arduini, Life Lessons |

ABOUT
THE AUTHOR:
I began writing as a hobby while raising my two children. In 2015, I dusted off my stories and my dreams to see if I could turn my hobby into a career. My first story, Season of Hope, was inspired by summer vacations which always included a trip to Franklin, North Carolina, to visit family and explore The Smoky Mountains. When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time with family. I love most any activity that involves being outdoors, especially camping, hiking and spontaneous excursions to splash in the ocean. I currently live along the Emerald Coast of Florida with my cat Selah and her delightful offspring, Colby, Jack and Tuesday.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When Amanda Jarvis prays that a special friend will move into the vacant house near her isolated mountain home, she isn't upset when God sends a boy instead of a girl. But Amanda's not the only one receiving unexpected answers to her prayers. After fleeing with his mother from an abusive father, Tyler Armstrong finds much-needed love and acceptance with Amanda's family over the next ten years. As high school graduation nears, Tyler is shocked when one carefree afternoon with Amanda churns up an inner turmoil he would have never imagined; he's crushing on his best friend. And for the firs time in his life he's hiding a secret from Amanda. Convinced the timing is all wrong, Tyler pushes his feelings aside as he and Amanda prepare for the future. He will soon begin training to pursue his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL, while Amanda makes plans to spend the summer in Manhattan with her aunt and then return home to the community college. When Amanda's summer job catapults her into a modeling career, she readily accepts the much-needed distraction. Tyler's impending deployment is turning her world upside down. Along with the fact that she's falling for her best friend. And, for the first time in her relationship with Tyler, she's hiding a secret, too. Phoebe Garrison, Amanda's controlling aunt, is thrilled when she is given the power to act on behalf of her underage niece. Bored with her Fortune 500 advertising agency, becoming Amanda's manager is just what she's been looking for to rekindle her aspirations. But as Tyler becomes aware of Phoebe's obsession to push Amanda into supermodel status, tensions rise. As the three of them become entangled in a mass of concealed ambition and desire, each will make decisions that will send ripples of turbulence across their futures.

There’s so much going on with characters that we
don’t always get to read about in the book.  Here’s a short excerpt from
Amanda’s journal the night before she left for her summer in New York.
June 1
Tonight, Tyler and I took his truck out into the
pasture for our “anti-prom” and watched the meteor shower. I tried not to think
how the life we have shared here on Nathan’s Mountain for the past ten years is
over. Tomorrow I leave for Knoxville with Mom and Dad so I can catch a flight
to New York.
Our friends crashed our little party. I loved seeing them but I
wanted so much to be alone with Tyler on our last night here. It made for a
bittersweet evening. Shouldn’t I be excited? I mean, isn’t everyone excited
when high school is finally over? I am looking forward to New
York. Phoebe intrigues me, and I want to see what life might be like if I
eventually get accepted at Barnard. This will give me a chance to see what it
would be like living in the city.
But the reality is that at the end of the summer I’ll be coming back here and Tyler will be gone. He’s been my best friend for ten years. I’ve never even let myself imagine what life on this mountain would be like without him here. My heart sinks at the thought of
sitting on the porch at night knowing that he isn’t at the bottom of the
mountain, somewhere behind the soft glow of his porch light. No longer will he
leave here from one of our long talks and signal me with the two flashes of
that light to let me know he’s home and wish me, “sweet dreams.” There will be
no reason to rush inside to send two flashes back to him. Our sweet little
tradition is over forever. How did I not see this coming? Why have I been so
absorbed with the busyness of life that I failed to notice I was about to
experience some of the most routine things for the last time.
I’m exhausted and I need to get some sleep. I’msure the morning light will bring with it a more optimistic perspective.
