Book Tour: Review of Melissa Foster’s Chasing Amanda
From Chasing Amanda’s back cover: Nine years ago, Molly Tanner witnessed a young girl’s abduction in the busy city of Philadelphia, shifting her occasional clairvoyance into overdrive. Two days later, the girl’s body was found, and Molly’s life fell apart. Consumed by guilt for not acting upon her visions, and on the brink of losing her family, Molly escaped the torturous reminders in the city, fleeing to the safety of the close-knit rural community of Boyds, Maryland.
Molly’s life is back on track, her son has begun college, and she and her husband have finally rekindled their relationship. Their fresh start is shattered when a seven-year-old girl disappears from a local park near Molly’s home. Unable to turn her back on another child and troubled by memories of the past, Molly sets out to find her, jeopardizing the marriage she’d fought so hard to hold together. While unearthing clues and struggling to decipher her visions, Molly discovers another side of Boyds, where the residents–and the land itself–hold potentially lethal secrets, and exposes another side of her husband, one that threatens to tear them apart.
From Julie:
I’m posting a little backwards but it’s all good. Melissa Foster’s second novel is Chasing Amanda. Next week I’ll be telling you about her first book, Megan’s Way. Stay tuned, won’t you?
It seems no matter where I go in cyberspace I see Melissa Foster’s work. I’ve never seen an author work harder in getting their name and work out to the masses. She’s created a genuine buzz for her new release, Chasing Amanda.
Chasing Amanda takes the reader to Boyds, Maryland where Molly Tanner lives after a traumatic experience made her leave Philadelphia. Living in Boyds gives her new friends, opportunities and a start over with her husband after a lot of adversity stemming from the event in Philly.
Boyds doesn’t stay peaceful long and Molly finds herself in the middle of circumstances that take her back to what happened in Philadelphia. Molly has the choice to let other people handle it or try to right what she thinks was a wrong she caused years ago.
Melissa Foster’s writing reminds me of Ted Dekker. The suspense is so strong I’m waiting for theme music to jump out and scare me as I turn the pages. Just when you think as a reader you have the situation figured out, a new twist appears. Melissa does a great job bringing closure to Molly’s past as well as opening eyes to the reality of past, present and future of life in Boyds.
I look forward to reading more, even about another character from Boyds. I’d like to see the author dig deeper into the characters, especially Molly’s husband. There is a lot more that could be done even though this story was written with a great tie of loose ends. It was also done well to explore new possibilities I hope Ms. Foster takes.
My only caution is for readers of faith who do not like reading profanity. There is strong profanity throughout the book.
If suspense and towns and people with secrets is your kind of book, than you will devour Chasing Amanda.

Thank you, Julie, for your honest review. I truly appreciate your time and am I’m glad that you enjoyed reading Chasing Amanda.
I have been asked many times to write a follow-up to this novel, as well as to Megan’s Way. There’s a very strong chance of a second Molly Tanner novel that would delve into Molly’s son and her husband a bit further, and I’m tossing around a follow-up to Megan’s Way (possibly Olivia’s Journey).
XO,
Melissa
Melissa,
The sequel option is so appealing for readers. I find time and time again the characters are like friends and as a reader, I’m curious to know what comes next. I personally want to see more not just from Molly, but her husband. With his career and their backstory from the premise of Chasing Amanda, there is a lot I want to read! I’ll be back next week with Megan’s Way!
I really enjoyed both books. Nice to think there may be another Molly Tanner novel. I’d love to see how her son starts using his talents.
Sheila, I agree, I’d love to see that too!
