This is 56

Hello, 56
Each birthday for twenty years I’ve shared my reflections here. Can you believe I’m at 56?
This year I switched things up. My expanded birthday post is over on Substack—a beautiful community I’ve come to love. If you want to hear from “me” more often, Substack is the best place to find my longer thoughts, stories, and updates.
But because this space is my legacy blog, here’s the rundown.
The Year Behind Me
Fifty‑five was rough.
I enter 56 in my writing and reading era. I’m not afraid to try new things—or, as you can see from this screenshot of a recent reel, look a little ridiculous doing so.
When I started writing these birthday reflections, I had one child in school and one in pre‑K.
Now one is a teacher at that very school, and the other will start grad school this fall.
Life has a way of circling back and leaping forward all at once.
Stepping Into What’s Next
So here I am, 56 years old, still learning, still stretching, still laughing at myself, still trusting God with the parts that don’t make sense yet.
Hello, 56.
