Remembering Stephen Bly
I haven’t had instant access to news and resources as I usually do so I was shocked to learn one of my favorite authors and Christian Writers Guild mentor Stephen Bly passed away last week. Stephen and his wife Janet served as a team in so many ways but I received so much from them as my CWG mentors. I know their union was so much more than writing partners. They were in ministry. They of course, were partners in marriage and family. So many writers admitted they never met the couple in person but were grief stricken for Janet and the writing world with his passing.
I can’t think of a better way to honor him than suggest you visit their site and read their books. Of all the books I’ve devoured I have to say my favorite is the entire Fortunes of the Black Hills series and the entire Horse Dream series. I’m afraid of horses and Stephen’s writing made me want to fetch a plane to Montana and get on a horse. His latest release is Throw the Devil Off the Train. He was a classic western writer that reminded me of my dad’s favorite things. He took me back to a time and place that was so simple and carefree.
Please keep Janet and the Bly family in your prayers. I’m believing that once Jesus finishes giving Stephen a heavenly tour there is going to be many who welcome him to his eternal home with a tip of the cowboy hat and an orange creamsicle offering.
Our loss is heaven’s gain.
I especially enjoyed his book Paperback Writer. I got to meet him and take a workshop or two from him several years ago at the Oregon Christian Writers’ Conference. He was a fun man. Sorry to hear of his passing. I’ll be praying for his wife.
Julie: Thanks so much for the kind words. . .and request for prayers. Greatly appreciated. Blessings, Janet
