Sabbath Sunday: The Sad Scrapbook
Each Sunday I share an amateur nature photo I took along with a thought or two about God’s love for you.
This was a picture snapped early in our 2010 Outer Banks vacation.
By the end of the week, it was gone.
It reminds me of a true story regarding a home we bought. The owners had no children. They took every penny they had and worshiped their home. They added, improved, and repeated for years. The house was their god.
Note we bought that house. Because the owners couldn’t take care of it anymore. Even before we signed on the dotted line we remarked to each other how this couple missed living for what matters. Their hope was in their paychecks and physical house. They even laughed that they already added on a ridiculous amount of square footage to their mobile home.
In a matter of years, only one of them was still alive, and she didn’t have much to smile about. She had a photo album of all the construction projects. No family moments, no praises, nothing with eternal value.
But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards. Matthew 7:26-27, The Message
