Christmas Idea for Dad: The 21-Day Dad’s Challenge
When it comes to marriage and parenting, it’s easy to divide tasks and responsibilities into pink jobs and blue jobs. In fact, there are books out there dedicated to each gender regarding every aspect out there in marriage. The same exists for parenting books. Even though I’m classifed as a “pink” reader, I confess, there are some books made for men that I still want to get my hands on.
Focus on the Family has a new book out released by Tyndale House called The 21-Day Dad’s Challenge. This book’s subtitle reads, “Three Weeks to a Better Relationship with Your Kids.” I’m all about oneness in our relationships, and I see too many marriages and kids wishing the man in the house stepped up to the plate and lived up to his potential. (As an aside, I believe the book geared for men by John Eldredge, Wild at Heart, addresses why this happens and what to do about it.)
I’m impressed, really impressed, with what The 21-Day Dad’s Challenge has to offer. I have a few reasons why.
1. 21 days. They say it takes 3 weeks to form a habit, good or bad. Reading the short, practical, daily tips takes all of 3 weeks.
2. Contributors you know, and trust. If I tell my husband that Tony Dungy is featured in a book, my husband wants to know more. Tony is a noted man of faith who takes fatherhood seriously. Other names include Josh McDowell, Randy Alcorn, Carey Casey, Jim Daly, Stuart Briscoe, Chip Ingram, Dr. Gary Oliver, Dr. Gary Rosberg, Gracia Burnham, Joe White, Shaun Alexander, Michael Catt, Dr. Ken Canfield, and more. These names are for the sports fans, the readers, and those who appreciate those with experience and an educational background.
3. It’s a book AND high-tech. My husband is a computer programmer and we love our gadgets. This book understands and provides something I haven’t seen before—the QR code to scan throughout the book. It’s easy to install a free QR code app on your smartphone and with your smartphone camera, scan codes throughout the book. When you do, it gives you a link for short, additional information to help you with the challenge. I tried it out and I loved it. It’s good information and easy to access. What a genius idea.
It’s time to stop looking down on men and instead, encourage them that they are men who can get the job called being a husband and father done well. They need our prayers, and the helpful resources that are out there. I believe The 21-Day Challenge is such a resource. This to me is a must-have for the man on your Christmas list.
I received this book from Tyndale House in exchange for an honest review.
